New Zealand offers a range of opportunities, from adventure tourism (or the more relaxed type if you prefer) through to international studies. If you are looking to explore a new life abroad, and perhaps want to test out the place, before you stay longer term, we have a range of temporary Visas on offer.
Your dreams, your goals and our expertise
New Zealand is a country that welcomes both travellers and students from around the world. Whether you are looking to explore our landscapes, spend time with family, or take advantage of world-class education opportunities, there are visa options to help you achieve your goals.
Visitor Visas
A Visitor Visa is the most common way to spend time in New Zealand for a holiday, to catch up with friends or family, or to attend short courses. With this visa, you can usually stay for up to nine months within an eighteen-month period, giving you plenty of time to explore the country. Some nationalities may not even need to apply in advance, as New Zealand has visa-waiver agreements with certain countries (you will still need to secure an NZETA however).
To be granted a Visitor Visa, you will generally need to show that you have enough money to support yourself during your stay, and that you have a plan to leave at the end of your visit — often by providing proof of a return ticket. It’s important to keep in mind that Visitor Visas don’t usually allow you to work in New Zealand, so they’re best suited to those who want to travel, reconnect with family, or study for a very short time.
Student Visas
For anyone looking to study in New Zealand for more than three months, a Student Visa is normally required. This visa allows you to enrol in a full-time course at an approved education provider and is usually valid for the length of your study programme, up to four years.
A Student Visa can also open the door to other opportunities. Depending on the type of course you are enrolled in, you may be able to work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and full-time during scheduled breaks. For those coming with family, your partner or children may also have visa options linked to your study, and in some cases school-aged children can attend as domestic students.
To qualify for a Student Visa, you’ll need an offer of place from a recognised provider, proof of funds to cover your tuition fees and living expenses, and you must meet New Zealand’s health and character requirements.
Which Visa is Right for You?
If your plans are short-term, such as a holiday, family visit, or a short course, the Visitor Visa is likely the best option. If you are looking at studying longer term and want to enjoy the added benefits that come with student life in New Zealand, then the Student Visa will be the right choice.
No matter which option fits your situation, our team is here to guide you through the process, explain the requirements in plain language, and make your application as smooth as possible.
